Ah ah!

Amina Brai Omoike

Remember ‘We are the world’, the song done by Michael Jackson and various artistes in 1984? Well, this 2010 and we have eight super stars from across Africa unite with R. Kelly, the R ‘n’ B megastar to form ONE8 – the all-star group – out with the single ‘Hands across the world’ with a lovely video shot written and produced by the Pied Piper of R ‘n’B in his Chicago base - with all the featured artistes having the time of their lives.

The aim is to take the best in music from across Africa onto the global stage, connecting millions of fans through the universal language of music. This project is powered by Airtel, Rockstar 4000 and Sony Music worldwide.

Airtel ONE8 is symbolic of the power of connectivity – using networks, technology and the power of music to unite Africa and Africans. The proceeds would go to Airtel school project.

This collaborative super group comprises:

R.Kelly: He is one of the best-selling artistes of our time. With hits like ‘I believe I can fly’, ‘Bump ‘n’ Grind’, ‘Gotham City’, ‘You saved me’ and production of top artistes including the late singers Michael Jackson and Aaliyah, Toni Braxton and LL Cool J; R.Kelly has continued to stay in the hearts of many.

2Face: Innocent Ujah Idibia’s story began with Plantashun Boiz. However, 2Face has achieved most of his success as a solo artiste and is now one of the most internationally recognized celebrities Nigeria has produced in recent years. In 2005, 2Face became a household name when he took home an MTV Europe award for Best African act, a Channel O Music Video Award for Best Male Video and Best African Video (both for ‘African Queen’) and a Kora award for Revelation of the Year. His video for African Queen was also the first video to be played on Pan African channel MTV Base. The song African Queen was also featured in the Hollywood feature film, Phat Girlz.

Amani: She is one of the most talented and beautiful singing stars ever to come out of Kenya. Her name is a Swahili word that literally means peace and tranquility, and the soothing sounds of Amani’s music reflect exactly that. Amani’s unique East African R ‘n’ B and her undeniable style bring an uplifting and soulful feel to the ONE8 group.

Navio: He is one of the most awarded hip-hop artistes and has been on the forefront of the country’s hip-hop scene for more than 10 years. Originally, from the rap group Klear Kut, Navio became an overnight sensation, winning awards and topping charts until 2009 when he decided to pursue a solo career.

Alikiba: When it comes to the Tanzanian music style of Bongo Flava, (a combination of hip hop and traditional East African music), he is at the top of the food chain. He is fast becoming an internationally recognised star. Alikiba’s Bongo Flava style is largely influenced ‘Zouk’ music which has its origins in the Caribbean Islands.

4X4: This is a Ghanaian rap group mentored by hip-life duo, Buk Bak (Bright and Rooney). They released their first album ‘Siklitele’ in 2003, followed by a second album ‘Contestant Number 1’ in 2007. The group explained that they choose the name 4X4 because the whole crew was elevated by four minds: Bright, Ronny, Captain Planet and Abortion.

Fally Ipupa: Ipupa Nsimba aka Fally Ipupa is a singer, songwriter and respected guitarist who was born and raised in Kingshasa, DRC. Like many young performers of his generation, music was not considered more than a hobby and studies were forced to take priority over the young man’s passion. His first solo album was released in 2006 and ‘Droit Chemin’ sold over 100,000 units, spawning the hits Droit Chemin, Liputa and Kidiamfuka. In 2007, Fally was acknowledged by his peers in the music industry when he won the Best Male Artist Cesaire Award and Best Artist or Group from Central Africa in the continental Kora Awards.

JK: Jordan Katembula, otherwise known as JK, is currently Zambia’s leading musical superstar, lauded as a household name in his home country as well as creating a name for himself across Europe. Apart from great danceable beats, the other magic ingredients are his incredible voice, stage presence and sophisticated choreography. On stage, he is mesmerizing and engaging, booking out concert halls with sell-out shows across Africa and Europe.

Movaizhaleine: One of the continents most successful rap stories, ex-pats Movaizhaleine, now residing in Paris, France, have taken the African rap flag and are flying it high across the world for Gabon, and indeed the rest of the continent. In January 2007, they assembled their own recording studio named ‘La Foret Des Abeilles’ (the Drill of the Bees). In late 2007, they released their fourth album ‘TOME 2’. MH won the 2008 Video of the Year at the inaugural MTV MAMA Music Awards for their single ‘Nous’, despite the obvious political message in the track.

pour moi cette chanson estun mixte de We are the world + I believe I can fly.....Bref du deja vu qui n'interessera pas bcp de gens Smile

don't get me wrong, j'aime la melodie mais je DETESTE le concepte Smile
